Most of us go to church on Sunday because …that is what Sundays are for? God instructed Israel to set aside the Sabbath – or Saturday, the seventh day – as a holy day. The Sabbath was to be their day of rest and worship. Many Bible believing Christians also worship on Saturday, and honour […]

About Johan du Toit
Pastor Johan du Toit was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in a family of pastors, now in their 4th generation of ministers. He was raised in the Apostolic Faith Mission, a Pentecostal denomination that grew out of the work of John G. Lake. His ministry started as a Sunday School teacher after graduating from high school, teaching toddlers at first and ending with an adult class before he enrolled in Bible School in 1987.
Johan was drafted into the military for training at the age of 16, followed by a year of training at the South African Police College after which he served only one year before starting a career in banking.
Johan’s banking career took him on a winding path, starting as a junior clerk in the accountant’s department through all aspects of banking services to a management position in the International Banking Services department of the bank’s Head Office in Johannesburg. During this time Johan and Gerda enrolled as students at Rhema Bible Training Centre in Randburg, South Africa, attending evening class while continuing working at the bank during the day. They both graduated in 1988.
Pastors Johan and Gerda were married on December 8th, 1973. They have two adult sons, one daughter-in-law and one grandson.
Johan has siblings in South Africa and Gerda has one sister who lives in Ontario.
After two mission outreaches to Belgium, the du Toits started their ministry there as missionary pastors, leading a Flemish speaking church for 6 years. Although the church flourished during that time, the eldership started an action to bring the church under Flemish leadership, eventually bringing the congregation to a point where a division began to form. Johan and Gerda did not want to participate in such a development and decided to rather step down and see what the Lord planned next.
After about 18 months they were led to start a teaching ministry under the name WordWise in the city of Brussels with three sessions on a Saturday morning. After only three weeks they had to move to a larger facility to accommodate their growing attendance. Tuesday evenings were added and at the end of that year (1998) 34 regular attendees from 14 nationalities, several of them attached to diplomatic missions in Belgium, finished the year. Many of those year’s students started ministries in Belgium, other European countries and their home countries.
At the end of 1998 they moved to Canada to pastor Living Water Faith Fellowship in Newmarket, Ontario. At this time WordWise expanded as a correspondence Bible School with the first students in Sudan, then Papua New Guinea and eventually more than 20 countries.
WordWise Word School is still active with Bible Schools in South Africa and Kenya, and correspondence students in other nations. Its curriculum has expanded to a three-year program.
Pastors du Toit pastored Living Water Faith Fellowship until March 2015 when they handed the church over to Adrian and Irene Weening. During his tenure at this church pastor Johan was also a founding member of the local ministerial with strong relationships with local pastors and churches. Under his leadership three properties were purchased for the church, the last one a 5.3 acre parcel of prime land with a 12,000sf building which is now being renovated. Once finished it will be an outstanding facility where the local community can be served.
Although an introvert of character, pastor Johan is a strong leader who teaches the Word with great boldness. His desire is to see the church’s first love for the Lord restored, serving Him with passion and intimacy. The truth of the Word is his life’s pursuit with the new creation a major theme of his ministry.
Pastor Johan authored several books in Dutch, Mandarin and English. He travelled for many years to preach and teach the Word in about a dozen countries and he mentors several ministers around the world.

It seems God is limited by our prayers – that He can do nothing for humanity unless someone asks Him. God does nothing but in answer to prayer; and even those who have been converted to God without praying for it themselves, (which is exceeding rare) were not without the prayers of others. Every new […]
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own […]
What a difference we find when we study the church in Acts, and the churches of today! How is it that the church moved from simple gatherings in homes to corporate giants built on business principles? Why did we exchange the power of the Holy Spirit for marketing strategies to grow our churches? We even […]
A letter written 1,700 years ago by one Christian to another has been unveiled by the University of Basil, which is calling it the oldest Christian letter outside of copies of the New Testament. The letter was written in Egypt around the year 230 AD. It ends with the unique closing, “I pray that you […]
The Bible details the history of God’s dealing with man since the time of creation right up to the new earth and heaven. When we consider our present place in the history of the world, it is clear that we have reached a point where some kind of reset will have to happen. We are […]
While most Christians believe the that Lord will return, the debate of how and when it will happen is not settled. Views vary, each with their own Scriptural interpretation. The Bible does not give us a clear outline in a single passage to explain this event, or events, as it appears to be, so we […]
More and more Christians begin to talk about the last days, prophecies about to be fulfilled, the rapture, the tribulation, and the Lord’s glorious return. Questions abound, various points of view are put forward, yet uncertainty remains. The various versions of how the last days will unfold are all supported by good arguments, making it […]
We have a natural tendency to think that times don’t change, but they do. Next year will not be like this year, just as this year is not like last year. Everything around us is changing all the time because time doesn’t stand still. Challenges arise as time moves on. Smart people know to take […]
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And […]
