The desire to be like God goes back to the first couple on earth. Satan knew that, and used it as bait to lure Eve into his trap. She resisted at first, but when she heard that she could be like God, she saw the fruit of the forbidden tree in a different light, and ate of it. This one act of disobedience triggered a fall for the entire human race and everything that God had created. One would think that a lesson could be learned from this devastating error, but, sadly enough, it is not the case.
A simple answer to the devil should have been, “I have been made in the image of God, in His likeness, I have been given dominion over everything that God made and He blessed me, so I am blessed. I don’t think I can improve on that. ” Genesis 1:26,27
The desire to be like God first entered the heart of Lucifer himself. Beautiful as he was, his aspirations were to sit on the throne of God.
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ Isaiah 14:14
That original sinful though in the heart of Lucifer caused him to be cast out from heaven and the lofty position that he had in heaven. Yet, he still believes that he can be like God so he continuous to seek the adoration of man and replicate himself in them. He even tried to deceive Jesus into worshipping him! (See Matthew 4:9)
Adam was made in the image of God, but when he yielded to the temptation of the serpent he became a fallen being in the likeness of the one that deceived him. And so everyone born from this fallen man became like him a sinner disobedient to God.
Today the echo of that original fatal sin is still heard. While God offers us eternal life through His Son, man still wants to say, “I did it my way!” The fallacy of the evolution theory is leading up to a dangerous situation.
The best human talent available and large amounts of money are being poured into bringing man to a place where he can be like God. Google, the internet giant, represented by their director of engineering, Ray Kurzweil, is intensely involved with a project to develop artificial intelligence that will turn man into a godlike being.
MIRI is an institution specifically established with this goal in mind. Artificial intelligence through various applications will change humanity by the year 2030, according to their projections. Although scientists like Stephen Hawking and engineers such as business magnate and inventor Elon Musk have issued warnings against these ideals, Machine Intelligence Research Institute (MIRI) is steaming ahead with their plans.
The death and resurrection of Jesus opened the door for us to be recreated in His image (See Colossians 3:10 & 2 Corinthians 5:17). He did all the work and paid the price for it and He offers it to us as a gift. Our part is to believe it and embrace it in faith.
Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 1 John 3:2
This is the world that we live in. Deception is our greatest threat, and it always finds a door through ignorance about the truth.
